     Резюме

Beer is one of the first beverages people made, and nowadays it is the most popular drink in many places all over the world. From ancient traditions to modern technologies, the main raw material for its production has been the barley malt. In breeding, however, it is extremely difficult to combine a complex of traits meeting the demands of the consumers, the grain producers and the brewers. In most cases the successful enhancement of the production potential causes deterioration of stress tolerance and quality. The use of donors with good combining ability and different genetic basis is the most realistic possibility for development of malting barley varieties which combine a greater number of desired traits at an acceptable level. In 2012, with order No RD 12-19 of the Ministry of Agriculture of Bulgaria, a two-rowed winter barley variety GTE Yaspis, developed at Dobrudzha Agricultural Institute – General Toshevo, was released. The variety is protected with certificate No 11039 / 31.03.2014 of the Patent Agency. The aim of this investigation was to make economic characterization of two-rowed winter barley variety GTE Yaspis. The biological and economic properties were evaluated within the system of the national Executive Agency of Variety Testing, Field Inspection and Seed Control (EAVTFISC) during 2009 – 2010 and 2010 – 2011. Averaged for the period of testing, the relative yield was with 8.3 % above the national standards. The date to heading was simultaneous with that of cultivar Emon and 2-3 days earlier than that of cultivars Obzor and Kaskadyor 3, but the duration of the vegetative growth was equal to their. The technological assessment of the new variety showed higher 1000 kernel weight and high uniformity of grain. By malting properties, the variety was equal to the mean standard. The advantages of GTE Yaspis are high resistance to net blotch and to unfavorable winter conditions.

Key words: winter two-rowed barley, GTE Yaspis, abiotic stress, biotic stress, productivity.
