The research shows results from testing experimental crosses, obtained in a partial diallel cross by Savchenko (1978). The general and combining specific ability (GCA and SCA) for grain yield of 13 medium-early maize lines, part of the Corn Collection of Maize Research Institute – Knezha, have been evaluated. The testing has been done on two testers from different genetic groups – Lancaster and Reid. The hybrids were obtained in 2017 and were crossed in 2018 on two experimental fields, growth density being 6500 plant of dka. With highest GCA are the lines KS 627, KS 677, SH 517 and KS 629-1. With high SCA are the lines KS 684, KS 678 and SH 593. The line KS 677 displays in its hybrid combinations high effects of GCA and variances of the effects of SCA which makes it valuable in various directions. After an analysis of the results, some recommendations for the usage of those lines in concrete breeding tendencies have been made.
